The Apprenticeship, Traineeship & Jobs Growth Wales Programmes, led by the Welsh Government, are supported by the European Social Fund
Restart is a £2.9 billion scheme from the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) that gives Universal Credit claimants who have been out of work for over 12 months enhanced support to find jobs. It benefits businesses by giving them access to more employable people who are keen to work.
What is it?
The Restart Scheme is designed to support people who have been on Universal Credit to obtain sustainable employment. The Government launched it on 28th June 2021 as part of its ‘Plan for jobs’ and aims to run the Restart Scheme over four years.
How does it work?
Participants are referred by Jobcentre Plus to employability specialists, such as North Wales Training. We immediately start working with them, by assessing their needs, and putting together a tailored package of support to enable them to overcome the barriers to finding and obtaining employment. This could include everything from, one-to-one coaching, interview preparation, vocational training or help to build digital skills. Support is all geared to their aspirations and the local jobs market. Participants can receive this support for up to twelve months.
Who is delivering Restart?
Serco is delivering the Restart Scheme for the DWP in Wales. We are one of Serco’s chosen delivery partners to deliver the Restart Scheme locally in North Wales, covering Conwy, Denbighshire and Wrexham.
How does it benefit employers?
Upskilling, retraining and honing an individual’s skills increases the talent pool you can tap into as an employer. We are unlocking untapped potential in people so your organisation can find the right person for the job. The Restart Scheme enables employers to discover new talent they might otherwise miss, whilst supporting individuals to secure work.
What can employers do to help?
We want to work with receptive employers to help find people jobs and for your business to grow. Please be receptive to Restart Scheme applicants and talk to us about upcoming opportunities for this or any of our other employability initiatives.
