Kickstart Scheme

The Kickstart Scheme is a £2b investment from government to create 6-month job placements for 16-24 year olds, at risk of unemployment due to the pandemic. For businesses this means you can take on new staff and the government will largely foot the bill.

What is it?

The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to create new jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment. Employers of all sizes can apply for funding which covers:

Employers can spread the job start dates up until 31 December 2021. You’ll get funding until 30 June 2022 if a young person starts their job on 31 December 2021.

Further funding is available for training and support so that young people on the scheme can get a job in the future.

North Wales Training is a Kickstart gateway. We can not only make your application but provide the wraparound support required to help you help your placements secure long-term employment.

Reviews

Here are some reviews from a couple of employers on an Kickstart placement here at North Wales Training..

Holly Hughes is a Kickstart Administrator and states:

I would say that the kickstart scheme is a great way of getting 18 to 24 year olds back into the workplace and gets you prepared for different roles of work. If a company is with kickstart and you like that specific role all you have to do is apply and hope to get the job and if successful you stay there for 6 months and of course hope you get a full-time job with them but if sadly not, successful it gives you work experience for the next role you would like to do

Charley Homer is a Kickstart Marketing Coordinator based in Colwyn Bay and she states that:

The Kickstart scheme is brilliant. I had been in Universal Credit for several years while finishing my education, and I was applying for jobs day in and day out. I got nowhere because the jobs I was interested it required experience which I had not got but only academic experience. When I seen the work placement opportunity, I jumped to it because it had a whole load of benefits for my experience and my future. I totally recommend this scheme 100%’
